Black Panther Party, 1968 - 1973

The MCHR helped the Black Panther Party (BPP) open free clinics in several locations, including the San Francisco Bay Area. Members of the MCHR helped BPP activists in obtaining medical equipment and drugs for the clinics. They also arranged lab tests and exams in local hospitals (Dittmer, J. The Good Doctors).

Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act of 1966, Dr. Fine was able to acquire his FBI file, which he incurred due to his involvement with the MCHR and the BPP. This roughly three-inch document revealed that Dr. Fine seemed to be the official Bay Area physician for the BPP from 1968 to roughly 1973. He replaced another doctor the BPP was unhappy with through the recommendation of Dr. Phillip Shapiro. His FBI file is publicly unavailable but attached are some pages showing the FBI's tailing.  Also in his FBI file is mention of his MCHR activity at Alcatraz, SF State College and the Worker's Defense Committee.

Medical Cadre is another MCHR booklet whose purpose was to inform and educate about basic rights and first aid in the event of a demonstration or arrest. It was written for the Black Panther Party, whom the MCHR helped open free clinics in several locations including the Bay Area. The MCHR also provided first aid classes to the Black Panther Party among other groups, Dr. Fine was one of the MCHR members who gave these classes.

Beat the Heat was written as a more in-depth follow up to Medical Cadre. Subtitled as "A Radical Survival Handbook" it was divided into four parts: People's Law Book, Community Organization Guide, First Aid for Activists and Firearms and Self-defense. Dr. Fine co-authored the First Aid for Activitsts portion.
