1980s & 1990s
In 1981, Dr. Fine married his wife Kathleen and shortly after they had twin girls.
1981 was also the year the first case of what is now recognized as AIDS, was officially reported.
In 1983, SFGH opened Ward 86 and Ward 53, the first inpatient and outpatient clinics dedicated to AIDS – setting the world standard for care and treatment of the disease.
